COMP1 includes teaching and practical exercises in evidence based medicine and public health, and an academy placement in child health.
In evidence based medicine we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to critically appraise research evidence, and to use that evidence to inform their practice.
In public health we aim to develop an understanding of the wider determinants of health, and the multidisciplinary nature, goals, and types of information used in public health practice, disease prevention, and infection control.
In child health we aim to enable students to understand the growth, development and health of children and to introduce the principles and practice of modern paediatric medicine and surgery.
Further details are available to fourth year undergraduate medical students through Blackboard.
